Sanderson Farms Championship

The Country Club of Jackson, Jackson, MS

Thanks to Danny Willett’s 18th hole meltdown last week, I am officially 1 for 1 in my “who will win” prognostications for the Tour’s first event of the (last) wraparound season.

On to the Sanderson Farms Championship which begins tomorrow morning. It’s not a stellar field but defending champion Sam Burns headlines a middling group of vets and Korn Ferry grads.

Who should win? – Sam Burns 11/1

He finished the season poorly and didn’t really distinguish himself at the President’s Cup but he is still the class of the field. Coming out of what was probably the most pressure he has ever felt at Quail Hollow last week, Sanderson Farms should feel like a hit and giggle corporate event.

Who could win? – Sahith Theegala 20/1, JT Poston 28/1, Scott Stallings 28/1

Theegala continued to put up low numbers with a T6 last week. He’s also a joy to watch. Poston had a T15 at the Tour Championship and has had two top finishes in this tournament. Stallings finished the year well with a runner-up finish at the BMW. He posted a T6 here in 2021.

Longshot to consider – Byeong-Hun An 55/1

He played most of last season on the Korn Ferry but he won here in 2020 and had a T4 last week at the Fortinet.

Who will win? – Sahith Theegala

Theegala will win at least one tournament this year so why not this one? He had a great rookie campaign and T6 at the Fortinet.
