Recap – Shriners Children’s Open

I came oh so close to predicting the winner of the year’s first two PGA Tour events, but alas, Matthew Wolff lost his ability to hit a fairway on the second nine and ended up in second place. Sungjae Im played a near-flawless final round and his 62 made it difficult for the other contenders to make up any ground.

Another player I touted in the “could win” category was Sam Burns. Burns continued his great play right through Saturday’s round but couldn’t keep it going on Sunday and slipped to a T14 finish. My other top picks – Abraham Ancer, Hideki Matsuyama, Will Zalatoris – did not contend. Erik Van Rooyen was my longshot pick based on his recent high finishes, but the rust from a few weeks off showed and only Kevin Chappell kept Van Rooyen from a MC and dead last place.
